Rivian Automotive (RIVN) is an electric vehicle manufacturer pivoting from its low-volume, premium R1 truck and SUV line toward the mass-market R2 SUV, with a Volkswagen software joint venture and an Uber robotaxi and autonomy partnership layered on top. The company is led by founder-CEO RJ Scaringe and is headquartered in Irvine, California, with an East Coast headquarters in Atlanta. Rivian builds the R1T pickup, R1S SUV, commercial delivery vans (originally the Amazon programme) and the new R2 SUV, alongside in-house software, electrical architecture and autonomy technology. Revenue is split between an Automotive segment (vehicle sales and regulatory credits) and a fast-growing Software & Services segment anchored by the Volkswagen Group joint venture ("RV Tech") and the Rivian Autonomy Platform.
